There has reportedly been another case of a burnt power connector on an RTX 50 series GPU. The Reddit post shows not only a burnt power connector on an MSI RTX 5090 but also damage to the cable at the PSU end. This new case joins the list of burnt connector issues reported on the RTX 50 Series 12VHPWR Megathread, taking the total number of confirmed cases to five. The GPU was purchased about a month ago and was running with no overclock.

As per the post by redditor ‘Roachard’, their MSI 5090 GAMING TRIO OC’s power connector can be seen with multiple burnt/melted connection points, along with corresponding burnt pins on the PSU cable. What’s also interesting is that the cable has been damaged on the PSU end as well. According to the redditor, it was a stock PSU 12VHPWR cable that came with the Corsair SF1000L, which they decided to go with considering other reports of melting with custom cables.

The plastic connector at the PSU side has a big bulge and the cable seems to have burnt white as well. It is unclear at this point if that particular port on the PSU is nonfunctional or if the PSU itself has been damaged. The Redditor also shared that the GPU was purchased about a month ago and that it was being used at stock settings.

The motherboard used was the Asus Strix B650E-I with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU.

Comments on this post point out that this can be a combination of lack of load balancing on the RTX 40 and 50 series GPUs, as well as the 12VHPWR being rated for 600W maximum power delivery, which is what the RTX 5090 card can draw under load, leaving minimal to no headroom.
